Home Learning

Daily Message

In light of the school’s closure, we have created some documents outlining what pupils should be doing, as it is essential that pupils are continuing their learning from home. All pupils have been sent home with a Green book – we would like pupils to record their learning in these books.

Monday 23rd March 2020

Good morning Juniper Class,

I hope you have all had a good weekend.

Today is the first day of home learning, each morning I shall update a little message for you.

I shall put new tasks up each week for you, remember to complete them in your home learning book. If you did not get a home learning book, maybe you could choose a note book to complete your home learning in.

At the end of each week, I shall upload the information from this week at the bottom of the page, so that you can refer back to it if you would like.

I hope you all have a good day and stay safe,

Miss Park

Maths and Times tables

Maths: We are currently learning about fractions, please see the attached fractions document for support and activities. Here is the link to teacher/parent notes to go along with the work booklet:

Each child also now has a Maths Whizz login (details have been sent home).

Times tables: Children should also continue to practise their times tables, using the times table grids (already sent home) as well as the online test.

English, Spelling and Reading

English: There is an English activity booklet attached at the bottom of the page for children to work through and record in their home learning book. Children are also encouraged to keep up their writing, by writing stories of their choice.

Spelling: This week's spellings are week 5 of spring 2. The rule is: word families based on common words. Children could do a spelling test on a Friday and give me the scores when we return, house points will be given accordingly. All the children should have a copy of the spring spellings and the summer spelling were given out last week. If you do not have a copy, the spelling lists are attached at the bottom.

Reading: Don't forget to continue to read every day. If you have a copy of Tom's Midnight Garden, you can continue to read it, I shall try and record myself reading it and upload for you all to listen.

Topic and Science

Our Topic at the moment is Romans and in Science we have been learning about electricity.

Romans: Reading comprehension (already sent home). Here is a link to a fantastic website, children can access great information about a range of themes. Children can create posters, fact files or PowerPoints on any of the following topics: Roman Empire in Britain, family life, clothing, the Colosseum and Roman baths. We would also like the children to create a Roman shield, you can email a picture of your shield to me once complete.

Electricity: Reading comprehension (already sent home). We would like you to create a poster about being safe around electricity. BBC Bitesize has some great videos to help.

Creative Learning, P.E. and Mindfulness

It is also important to focus on creativity, mindfulness and fitness, in this section there are some creative and mindfulness activities for you to choose from each day.

Creative Learning: each day, try and choose one of these tasks to complete.

  1. Make a paper plane.
  2. Create a new board game.
  3. Help cook a meal.
  4. Do some stretching.
  5. Bake something tasty.
  6. Make a sock puppet.
  7. Help wash up or load the dishwasher.

P.E.: Visit Joe Wicks's youtube channel: The Body Coach TV every morning at 9AM for a live work out.

Mindfulness: each day, try and choose one of these activities to complete.

Activity 1: Place your hand on your stomach. Take 10 deep breaths and notice your hand moving up and down as you breathe.

Activity 2: Sit very still and notice one thing that you can see, hear, feel, taste and smell.

Activity 3: Close your eyes and think about how you are feeling. Happy? Sad? Mad? Scared? Excited? Another emotion? Think about how you know you are feeling this way.

Activity 4: Sit quietly and place a small object in your hand. A pencil, rubber, or something else. Notice how heavy the object is. Think about what it feels like in your hand. Notice a new thing about this object.

Activity 5: Do some mindfulness colouring.
